Tanya(Constanza) de Dios

Research Assistant

Tanya I am a recent graduate of Saint Mary’s College of California (SMC, May 2012), majoring in Psychology with an emphasis in neuroscience/experimental psychology. My past research in the lab of Hiroko Nakano at SMC has focused on music processing, particularly how dance expertise modulates the way dancers and non-dancers listen to music. We measured this effect in terms of EEG spectral power in the alpha, beta, and gamma bands. The experience has allowed me to immerse myself completely in all aspects of a research project, from mensuration to analysis and presentation. While this research has been in music processing with the use of EEG, I am hoping to learn other neuroimaging techniques and expand my spectrum of topics to processes of general attention and attentional control. As a research assistant in the Bishop Lab, I am able to pursue these interests given the lab’s use of fMRI and its work on attentional training and neurofeedback. I intend to make attentional processes the subject of eventual graduate study.
